There are some strange things that have happened through history. Read on to find of the more whacky and weird stats that have happened on this planet! 13 of them in fact!
1. Fine Arts at the Olympics?
It sounds strange but from 1912 until 1948, the Olympics used to host fine arts including literature, art, music and sculpture!
2. The Avengers are REAL!
The Avengers may be cinematic superstars, but there was a group of real Avengers. They were a group of Jewish people who sought revenge against Nazi war criminals. They poisoned over 2000 former Nazis.
3. Napoleon attacked?! That's bunny!
The French leader Napoleon was once attacked by a group of rabbits. He arranged a rabbit hunt for himself and his men, but when they were released from their cages, they attacked Napoleon instantly! I can't imagine why they did that!
4. Upset stomach? Fetch the ketchup!
When tomato ketchup was first made in the 1830s, it was used as a remedy for an upset stomach! Only later was it popularised as a table side sauce!
5. Trial by pig!
In 1386, a pig attacked a child- after which the child sadly died from their wounds. The guilty pig was arrested, thrown in jail, faced a trial and was executed!
6. Bear with me Lord!
The great poet Lord Byron- who was supposedly 'mad, bad and dangerous to know'- used to keep a pet bear in his room whilst he was at university. His reasoning for this was that he wasn't allowed to bring his pet dog- so he brought his bear instead. He even walked it with a lead!
7. Ol' blue eyes...
One of the first firefighters on the scene after the Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster was Vladimir Pravik. The radiation was so strong that his eye colour changed from brown to blue. He actually died 14 days later from radiation poisoning.
8. Not a job I'd like...
Henry the 8th had special servants whose sole job was to wipe his bottom after he had been to the toilet. Thankfully he knighted every single one of them. It was the least he could do!
9. 'Urine' for a treat with the Romans!
The Romans actually used urine to wash their clothes and as a mouthwash! It was actually very valuable to them... however, I am not sure the smell would have gone down all that well!
10. Death by elephant!
In Ancient Asia, elephants were trained to carry out the death sentence on criminals. They could crush skulls and twist off arms and legs!
11. Horse play from Caligula
The Roman Emperor Caligula had a favourite horse. He loved the horse so much that he actually made it into a Senator! He even built a house for it!
12. Who ate all the pies? Not Oliver Cromwell...
English one time leader Oliver Cromwell banned the eating of pies during his stewardship of England during the Republican days of the 17th century. He decreed that it was a pagan pleasure. It was banned for 14 years.
13. The sound of the volcano...
When the volcano Krakatoa erupted in 1883, it ruptured the ear drums of people 40 miles away it was that loud. Also- the sound of the eruption was said to have been heard over 3000 miles away.
